Production Report-Individual-

05/02/10-

Before this date, we had filmed some scenes in which we thought would be good to use, however when we got to logging and found the mistakes with the lighting and found out an issue with the continuity of the film, then we realised we would have to re-shoot all that we had done and so this date is technically the third day of shooting, but only the first for usable footage.

Because of what had happened before due to lighting, we were extra cautious about how to get the right lighting for the five scenes we filmed. Many of them were due to be filmed in the evening, however we had to film them during the day because of timing and deadline dates. Therefore as these scenes were meant to be in the evening, we had to black out a lot of the windows with black paper and black bin bags. This took some time setting them up, but it had the desired effect when looking through the LCD screen on the PD-150.

Artificial lighting that we used were the Pro Lights and with these we used mainly blue gels. We used the blue gels in these scenes because Leon was in these shots and they are some of the beginning scenes. In these scenes we wanted the effect of the coldness in the atmosphere and relationships as this is where Leon starts to get stray away and becomes more aggressive. Therefore we thought it was appropriate to have this lighting and use the blue gels.

Filming these scenes took some time setting up as we wanted the get the shots as correct as possible and so getting the right height and distance from the objects and characters took both effort from myself and the director. However while we were filming we were very precise and got all of the scenes filmed we wanted to, and so on this day we were successful.

16/02/10-

We filmed three scenes on this day (9, 10, 11) and the filming was done at night. In scene 9, there only one shot and we had a blue filter on a Pro Light for the lighting as it is Leon coming through the front door at night and him going into the kitchen. This required a blue gel as it is at night and he had been beaten up, so we wanted a cold and dark tone to this scene.

Scene 10 cause some difficulties as firstly, positioning the camera in the kitchen, which is a small space and having other equipment such as lighting and the boom was problematic. We tried many ways to get everything in, but we could not have any other artificial lighting apart from the ceiling lights as there was not enough room. Also the camera for the CU shots had to be hand held as there was not enough room for the tripod as it is a shot reverse shot scene. However the biggest problems in this scene was the sound. There was a major problem with the connection from the boom to the camera, as the sound would be there one minute and then cut out the next. This was very annoying and difficult as we would go to film something while the sound was there and then the next minute it was gone. We tried to figure out why this was happening and we took the cables out and put them back in, changed the camera battery and also turned the camera on and off. However we were unable to be successful and so some of the shots may not have complete sound for their duration and so we may have to shoot tis scene again.

Scene 11 was easier to film as in this location, the sound was working and so it did not take a long time to film these two shots that are in this scene. The lighting used here was a Pro Light with a blue gel, and this part of filming ran smoothly so we were able to get this done in good time. On this day we had some problems and we may have to re-shoot a scene again, however the other two scenes ran smoothly and so we had at least some success on this day.

26/02/10-

On this day, we filmed four scenes (14, 15, 16, 17) and these were daytimes scenes. Because these scenes were during the day, we did not have to black out the windows, and so this saved us time which we spent on setting up the camera and the lighting, and then filming.

Scene 15 was the first scene to be filmed and this is outside Leons bedroom in the upstairs hallway. Because this is one of the later scenes and when something is meant to have happened to Leon, a blue gel was used on the Pro Light to have create a colder and sader feel to the scene. This scene was completed relatively quickly and there were no major setbacks which caused us to lose time.

Scene 16 was the next scene to be done and it was only one shot, so we were able to do this very quickly. Scene 14 followed this and this was the scene that took the most time, because this had seven shots and we had to make sure the lighting and the camera positions were correct as this had both three people and a shot reverse shot in the scene. Also the actors got some of their lines wrong in some shots so we had to do quite a lot of takes, which took up a lot of time.

Scene 17 was the final scene to be filmed on this day and in this we used a orange gel as this is the last scene in the film and we wanted a warmer, more comfortable and restful atmosphere for the film. This scene also took some time as again the actors made some mistakes, however nothing else was incorrect or didn't go to plan and so once the acting mistakes had passed, we were able to film these shots in quick succession.

28/02/10-

These scenes were filmed at night and they were quick, short scenes which did not take a extremely long amount of time to film. The first scene to be filmed was scene 4 as this was the longest scene, so we thought we would do this first before we started to get tired and maybe demotivated. The lighting we used for these shots was just a Pro Light, but we did not use any gels as we wanted just a plain light to help with the scene as there is not a lot going on in them. The camera positions and the lighting positions were quickly established and this scene was done in good time.

The next scene to be done was scene 13 which involved a jump cut to a close up. This was also done in good time because we knew what we had to shoot and where, so setting up the camera and lighting here was not a problem. The final scene which we filmed was scene 7. This only involved two shots and because many of the shots in this location are filmed in the same position, setting up the camera and lighting was quick and easy because we knew where we needed them. Therefore on this day, the filming was a success and it was completed in a good amount of time due to our prior planning and growing knowledge and understanding where the lighting and camera needs to be placed in order to create the desired scenes.

09/03/10-

This day was our last day of filming and we had to film scene 8, which consists of two shots of Lily in her bed while she hears a dangerous conversation outside. These were done relatively quickly as we knew what we had to do to set up the location and we didn't need to move the camera too much for the second shot. Also on this day we filmed the sound for scene 13 which we were unable to do before. This was another argument and this was done fairly quickly as well. We did not have any problems on this day and so we filmed all that was needed in good time and so we can now start editing.
