Post-Production Report Individual-

11/03/10-

This was the first day of editing, and firstly we changed scene 2, to a jump cut instead of two shots, as this would be going along with our theme of jump cuts and it would have a stronger effect. We also spotted that there is an inconsistency with Lily’s hair, as in one shot she has long hair, and the next, she has short hair. This occurred because we filmed on different days and between them, she had her hair cut.

We cut scene 4 with shorter shots, as we had to make sure the shots did not have continuity problems as Lily is moving her head up and down. Along with this, we had to make sure that Lily’s hand, that was picking up the pencil, was consistent with what is going on in the next shot. In some shots in scenes 9, 10, 11 we had to merge the sound, as in some, the microphone was not working, and so we could not have consistent sound throughout. Therefore merging the sound in some shots makes it more consistent and there were not any continuity issues.

18/03/10-

On this day, we noticed that the film was too long with according to the guidelines, and so we shortened a lot of time and the shots throughout the film, in order to meet those guidelines. On the 11th, we had merged sound on some shots from 9, 10 and 11, but on this day we had to overlap some sound in scene 10 from one shot as we had all of the conversation in this, but the others kept cutting out. This meant that we could not have all of the shots we had planned to, as some could not have sound from other similar shots as the sound would not match the movement that was going on. Therefore we had to delete shot 4 on scene 10.

23/03/10-

On scene 2, we deleted the fade to black we had on the end, as we thought that it did not add to the realism. We then went back to do some more editing on scene 10, and saw that we had to delete shot 7 because again of sound problems. This made scene 10 a lot shorter than before, but we had to make these changes as the sound would not have worked otherwise.

On scene 4, we shortened every shot as in the feedback we had received, people had said they were too long, and so we decided to increase the pace in order to match what had been said. To also increase the pace, we shortened shot 1 on scene 7, and we deleted shot 2 on scene 7, because of its insignificance and it did not have a huge amount of importance.

In scene 14, we cut shot 4 to gain more pace, and on the first shot, there was a sound of a door that did not seem right, and so we cut the shot shorter from the beginning so that we could delete the sound and make a better quality production.

31/03/10-

We watched what we had so far, and we saw that on scene 4, the visual was getting stuck on one shot and kept replaying, so we rendered the film, but it kept happening. We figured out that the cause was the sound and so we had to re-add the sound, then it worked properly.

On scene 11 shot 2, we had to lower the sound for Leon coming through the door, as it was too loud. In scene 13, we also had to lower the sound levels as it was too loud to go with the rest of the film.

Then, on scene 14, the picture went missing suddenly, and so we had to add new picture and sound to the film. This made us confused as we knew we had put it onto the timeline before, as we had watched through it in order to make sure it was good footage.

Scene 15 is Lily looking into Leon's bedroom, and we reduced the sound levels here considerably, because this would give the feel of a silent room where the tension builds, and the audience know there is sadness involved. Scene 17 is the final scene with Lily and her mum sitting on the sofa, and here we had to lower the sound level for the first shot as the TV was too loud, then on the next shot we had to raise the sound level as the TV here was not loud enough. However on the same shot we had to lower the sound level on the first part, because the door was much too loud for the atmosphere that is meant to be in the shot.

01/04/10-

This was the last day for editing and we added titles at the beginning with cross dissolves. These titles showed the name of the film, and the two major character names in the film. At the end of the film we added more titles, where there was music and on the sound track for the titles, we put markers on the beats so that the titles flowed with the music. We also added cross dissolves on the lines of the beats.

When we added music in the main film, we lowered the sound where Leon slams the door to show the music becoming quieter with the door shut as it would in real life. Then, on scene 3 shot 2, we put the levels up and down as the footsteps were too loud, but we needed louder sound for the rest of the clip.

We also deleted scene 6 on this day as we did not think it added anything to the film and it was more wasted film that did not bring pace. On scene 5, where there was music that was layered and we had to lower it so that the speech could be heard.

We layered the argument in scene 13, and took out the sound of shot 2 as it was not needed. Also throughout the whole film, the cross dissolves are longer at the end of the days to make the audience know we were changing days. Hard cuts were used between shots unless there was a time change.

The font size for the titles added was 55 and the font used was Tahema for the capital letters and Trojan Pro for the names. Also for the titles we used a black background with white lettering as this goes with the conventions of titles and we did not think it was suitable to break these conventions.
